  • Early SELMER Paris Balanced Action Alto Saxophone with rare London engraving, 21xxx ***reserved***

This Alto Saxophone was produced before the official sales launch of the “Balanced Action Model Series” at the end of 1934/beginning of 1935 in the SELMER factory halls in Mantes la Ville near Paris.

The SELMER Company had existed in London for several years. There, the instruments were completed for export to the British Empire, because they were delivered from France unlacquered, without engraving, without pads and springs and in individual parts.

As one of the first Balanced Action Alto Saxophones produced, this 21xxx was embellished with a beautiful gravure: floral motifs merge with Art Deco symbols and a note with treble clef to create a beautiful, harmonious mixture on the bell and bow. One-piece key guards for the low B and Bb keys, specially designed key guards for low C# and side F# and various other technical details make this early SELMER Balanced Action a very rare SELMER Vintage Alto Saxophone.

The sound of this BA Alto is also special: a really nice dark timbre is somewhat reminiscent of its predecessor in the SELMER Super Sax series, the “Radio Improved,” although, overall, a bit more balanced. Thanks to the modernized mechanics, it fits well in the hand and freely radiates its sonoric characteristics since the Saxophone is completely de-lacquered.

    Pure brass, pure sound, wonderful!
