Serial-Nr.: 21XXX · Tenor
Year of manufacture: 1936
1936: Presentation of the new milestone in Saxophone manufacture from the French factory of Henri Selmer, Paris: the “Balanced Action” model.
As one of the first ca. 400 Balanced Action models built, this Tenor Saxophone was finished at the beginning of 1936. Sometime in the course of its now over 80-year life, this Saxophone was relacquered. The body and mechanics – as was often the case earlier – were lacquered dark. The neck had once been damaged and provided with reinforcing plates. This appears to have happened at a later date, since the neck is pure unlacquered brass.
The Horn bolts from the gates, has an enormous amount of projection and the full, warm resonance typical of Balanced Action.
Great Sax: Its not so pretty looks are more than offset by its really classy sound!
