  • 1975 Alto Saxophone SELMER Mark VI in excellent condition, 236xxx

We are frequently asked whether a SELMER alto or tenor saxophone with a serial number higher than 220800 is actually a Mark VI, or whether it must be a Mark VII, as this is what is stated in SELMER’s serial number list.

You can read more about this here: https://www.legendary-saxophones.com/en/mark-vi-serial-nr-220800/

Yes, this beautifully maintained SELMER Mark VI 236xxx is a genuine Mark VI. Built in 1975, it is one of the last approximately 5,000 Mark VI alto saxophones to leave the SELMER factory in Mantes la Ville near Paris.

And even though it was built 50 years ago, it still looks great! The lacquer is still 99% intact. Only the bell rim was repaired at some point in the past, leaving a small cosmetic flaw where the lacquer is no longer present in one small area.

However, I don’t think this is a deal breaker, because otherwise this horn looks simply picco-bello!

We have just overhauled this 1975 SELMER Mark VI alto saxophone in our SAXOPHONIC workshop, using French CHANU pads with plastic resonators, just as SELMER did originally in the 1970s.

Technically, this beautiful horn is flawless and ready to play. It plays wonderfully and develops a beautiful projection when played more strongly, so it’s not only a treat for the eyes but also for the ears…
