1933 Adolphe Sax Baritone Saxophone made by Henri SELMR Paris, 778

Not only is this Adolphe Sax baritone saxophone a rare saxophone, these saxophones from the inventor of the saxophone are also very rare visitors to SAXOPHONIC – Legendary Saxophones!

This Bari was built in 1933 by Henri SELMER Paris, after SELMER took over the saxophone production from Adolphe Sax. The Adolphe Sax factory was located in Paris, 84 Rue Myrha. Adolphe Sax’s workshops were taken over by Henri SELMER in 1928 and they continued to produce Adolphe Sax saxophones there for a few years before SELMER began to manufacture SELMER saxophones exclusively after 1944. Between 1931 and 1944, around 3,600 Adolphe Sax saxophones were built by SELMER.

Now to this Adolphe Sax baritone saxophone with the serial number 778: as already mentioned above, it was built in 1933 and shipped to Ben Davis – later SELMER London – in July of the same year. There it was varnished, engraved, upholstered and prepared for sale for the British market.

We are currently offering this Barisax in non-playable condition, as it requires a general overhaul. The condition of this saxophone is still quite good, considering its proud age of over 90 years: the reinforcement plates in the knee and upper bout are still in their original shape, of course there are dents, scratches or other signs of use here and there (see photos). The lacquer is still in pretty good condition, it has darkened nicely over the decades. There are soldered joints on the key guard for the low-Eb flap.
