Lovingly crafted by the instrument makers at SELMER, it was manufactured in 1957 and early 1958. Since then, it has been played by several musicians, yet it has survived its nearly 70-year “life” almost unscathed. Apart from a small amount of damage to the reinforcement plate on the knee joint, there is no visible damage, which is unusual for a saxophone of this age: the neck, body, and bell with bell rim are in perfect condition. The lacquer is also 99% intact, and the beautiful floral hand engraving on the bell and knee, as well as the stampings on the bell and body, are flawless.

We gave this special instrument a SAXOPHONIC premium overhaul a few years ago and have now given it another partial overhaul. Thanks to our overhaul of the mechanics, the feel of this Mark VI is in no way inferior to a new SELMER saxophone!

Sonically, this early Mark VI alto saxophone is somehow special. It is beautifully open, has a lot of radiance, lovely warmth, and a good portion of overtones that give it that “certain something.” When the right player blows into this horn, nothing stands in the way of a good partnership!
