  • **Just sold** 1955 Tenor Saxophone SELMER Mark VI, US-Version, nice dark lacquer with engraving, Player’s Horn, 60xxx

Here we have another beautifully preserved SELMER Mark VI in the US version with nicely darkened lacquer that is still in pretty good condition. This Mark VI was manufactured in France in 1955 and then shipped to the SELMER factory in Elkhart, USA, in its raw state – i.e. unassembled – without paint or engraving. It was then finished there.

At a later date – perhaps during a general overhaul at the SELMER USA factory – the neck was replaced. Now this neck with a 100,000 serial number is on the saxophone and I have to say that it suits this horn perfectly: it has a beautifully varied character, played with a lot of air it sounds wonderfully “mellow”, and when played powerfully it goes right to the front. When I play it, I notice that this SELMER Mark VI tenor sax resonates really well, it starts off easily and I find it easy to enjoy its dynamics as much as I can. But this Mark VI can do much more. You can clearly feel and hear that it has been played professionally for decades!

Technically, this SELMER Mark VI tenor saxophone is in good shape. good condition, the mechanics work perfectly and there is no excessive movement. We have just fine-tuned it in our SAXOPHONIC workshop and it is ready to play!

SELMER saxophones from the early years of Mark VI production in fabulous condition are becoming increasingly rare to find, and prices will continue to rise, which is in the nature of things.
